Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian/American media critic who is also a popular public speaker. Feminist Frequency was created by Sarkeesian. The website hosts videos with commentary that analyze the representations of women that are prevalent in the media and popular culture of today. Anita Sarkeesian has been a journalist, media critic and a prestigious feminist for more than a decade. Feminist Frequency is an educational non-profit website that examines female representations in popular culture narratives. In her efforts to break down stereotypes that are associated with women in pop culture, she also works on issues related the targeted harassment women and other classes of people on the internet. With a master's in political and social thought from York University Sarkeesian is also a much sought-after public speaking engagement and has given speeches at TEDxWomen XOXO Festival as well as The United Nations' Broadband Working Group on Gender. At a young age, Sarkeesian was fascinated by the issue of gender identity and feminist thinking. While still at school in 2009, she launched her Feminist Frequency Website. A woman with ambitions to start a web-series examining the representation of gender in video games was targeted by the internet campaign. However, the attacks did not dissuade her. She was only able to strengthen her position as a feminist journalist. Sarkeesian has been awarded numerous awards in recognition of her many prominent contributions to the field of feministism. Anita Sarkeesian was a multi-award award-winning media journalist. She also serves as the director and founder of Feminist Frequency a nonprofit educational organisation that studies pop culture representations of females.
