Gunn is the daughter of interior Designer Sharon Anna Kathryn Shana Gunn and real estate agent Clemens Gunn Jr. was born and was raised in Cleveland Ohio. Santa Fe Preparatory School was where Gunn graduated in the year 1986. She was a major in drama and graduated from Northwestern University with a theatre degree. Gunn went to the British American Drama Academy, in which she enrolled for a period of time in 1988. She lived in a house with Pamela Adlon after moving to Laurel Canyon Los Angeles. Gunn was well known for her role as Skyler in the AMC's Breaking drama. She was nominated for an award called the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in an Drama Series in 2013 and 2014. Her performance was a winner both 2013 and 2014. In August 2013, her op written article in The New York Times examined public hatred directed towards her character.
